A few weeks ago I had to say goodbye to my beloved Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12s. I loved those shoes but I ran them to death and I was getting twisted ankles, blistered little toes and no grip. When they gotta go, they gotta go.

Normally I would just replace like with like but I have been with the Brooks for well over 7 years now and thought it may be time to give someone else a try and Mizuno has stepped up to the plate.

New Mizuno Wave Alchemy

After a lot of reading and a few visits to various London running stores I decided to go with another stability shoe the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 12 and when I put them on this morning for my first run I was excited.

Planning on only running 5km (after nearly a month off running) my run went closer to 10km and I absolutely glided through (ok, my lungs would argue with that).

The new show, Mizuno Wave Alchemy 12

I have a wide foot and I love the shape the Mizunos have at the front giving my poor little foot pinkies room to breath. Normally new shoes on a first run cause some issues, I didn’t feel anything with these.

The padding was snug but extremely comfortable and my foot felt like it was hitting the floor flat, important to stop me twisting those poor ankles. I also felt like they forced me to roll off my toes a little more than my previous Brooks, potentially a good thing for my running.

The shoes were very breathable but in the 0 degree weather London is currently having it meant my feet were pretty cold at the start of the run. Of course this subsided as the blood go pumping.

I’m still a little worried about being in a new shoe and it’ll take a few more runs to be 100% sold but for now my review is a huge thumbs up.

What i’ll miss about the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12

It’s sad to say goodbye to the familiar and dropping them into the clothing bin was not a nice moment as something knew I was likely to switch shoe! I’m also a spend thrift so hate spending on new shoes even though it is worthwhile for my health!

The fit of the Brooks is something I have trusted for years and although not as flexible as some shoes it gave my foot a sense of being cocooned in safety. They have helped me run to distances I have neverĀ achievedĀ before, up mountains, along rivers and across very varied terrain.

They are a great all round shoe. I enjoyed the ridged support and airflow but warm feel. I would still highly recommend this shoe.

So, have you tried either of these shoes? What shoe do you run in?

When I can be I am a regular runner but I am also nothing special and certainly no elite, so in that respect I am regular too. However I do love talking about running and related things and I do have a lot of experience, over 15 years now.
